Hymenoplasty

Hymen repair surgery is also known as Hymenoplasty in Islamabad, Rawalpindi & Pakistan is the cosmetic surgery procedure that is used to repair, restore, or construct a woman’s hymen. Restoration of the hymen can also be termed as revirginization.

What is a Hymen?

The hymen consists of an oval rubber washer-shaped tissue that partly or completely covers the vaginal opening. This tissue can be thin and flexible or thick and inflexible. It begins to form usually in about the fourth month of pregnancy.

Contrary to what many believe, except in rare cases, the hymen is NOT an impenetrable seal. If this were the case, there would be no portal for menstrual flow or healthy, normal vaginal discharge to leave the body.

Although a hymen serves no real purpose. Yet, throughout history, this ordinary sheath of skin conventionally but very mistakenly has served as undeniable positive proof of a woman’s purity and innocence. Even at this present age, in many cultures, an intact hymen is still considered as proof of virginity, especially if there is the presence of blood upon first sexual intercourse.

Depending on Hymen’s rigidity, rupture of the hymen can be caused by normal everyday activities such as strenuous exercise, horseback or bicycle riding, a simple gynecological examination with an instrument, or insertion of a gloved, etc.

In some cases, a hymen might not exist at all, as approximately 1 in 1,000 females is born without a hymen.

Why Hymenoplasty is done?

Hymen Repair Surgery in Islamabad, Rawalpindi & Pakistan is a cosmetic objective for those women who wish to repair or reconstruct their hymen. Their reasons for seeking this procedure are different, and these might be physical or psychological. Some of these reasons are:

Reclaiming control:

It is a common desire of every woman to present the virginal gift of an intact hymen to the person she loved the most. Hymenoplasty can offer physical restoration as well as some psychological comfort and healing as well.

Cultural beliefs:

The presence of an intact hymen is still considered as important in many cultures around the world, and in order to follow this cultural belief, a woman may want to provide this indication of purity to her spouse for their upcoming weddings.

Accidental rupture or tearing:

Sometimes Hymen might rupture unintentionally via bicycle or horseback rides, slipping on ice, or clinical insertion. Therefore they opt for Hymenoplasty in order to restore what was damaged unintentionally.

Enhancement of sexual pleasure:

After childbirth, the vaginal muscles tend to weaken a bit. Hymenoplasty can also tighten these muscles, which gives the additional benefit of having a more sensually stimulating sexual experience.

Imperforate hymen:

This is a rare condition in which the entire vaginal opening is covered by the hymen. It is not usually revealed until a young girl enters into her teens and her menstrual flow is impassable. The surgical procedure used to correct this is called Hymenotomy, and a small hole is made in the skin to allow blood flow.

Septate hymen:

A septate hymen refers to a very thick or rigid hymen, and may also require surgical penetration. This is also corrected by the Hymenotomy procedure.

What Happens During Hymenoplasty?

Hymenoplasty is usually a simple outpatient procedure that can be done in your doctor’s clinic by using local anesthesia. During the procedure torn skin around the edges of the hymen is smoothly and skillfully cutaway, after which the remaining tissue is joined together with the help of dissolvable stitches, leaving a small opening. After that, you can get the hymenal ring in normal size and shape.

Complications:

There are rarely any complications of a Hymenoplasty procedure. However, you must contact the doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Dizziness
  • Pain after three days
  • Unusual or smelling discharge
  • Intense itching
  • Abnormal bleeding

Recovery Note:

The surgery can be expected to be completed in one to two hours depending on the amount of work required. Hymenoplasty in Islamabad, Rawalpindi & Pakistan is usually a clinical procedure that requires no hospital stay necessary, and women may return to work the next day. However, strenuous activity and heavy lifting should be avoided. During the first 48 to 72 hours, you might experience slight bleeding, but this is absolutely normal.

Complete healing might take almost six weeks. You will be surprised to note that there will be no visible signs of surgery and it will be impossible to spot the difference between a natural hymen and a reconstructed one.
